Chris Stars in "Doubt" in Peoria
Christopher Haines is currently appearing in Theater Works’ production of “Doubt.” Here’s the first portion of Kerry Lengel’s review of “Doubt” on the azcentral.com website (Reviewed Friday, Sept. 7. Continues through Sunday, Sept. 30. Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, 8355 W. Peoria Ave. $13-$31. 623-815-7930):
“If you saw “Doubt: A Parable” at ASU Gammage a few years back, then you saw a fearlessly searching moral drama built to stand the test of time, starring the Tony Award-winning Cherry Jones as a bulldog of a nun hell-bent on destroying a popular priest.
“If you saw that national tour, you also saw an intimate, four-actor drama drowning in production values, with rolling scenery reconfiguring itself onstage as if the play were a revival of “Camelot.”
“This sin against John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning script is redeemed in an elegantly minimalist production by Theater Works, which stars artistic director Robyn Allen as Sister Aloysius, the principal of a Bronx parochial school in 1964.”
